On MTV EMA, BTS, BLACKPINK, SEVENTEEN…Europe’s Largest Music Awards
K-pop artists such as the group BTS and BLACKPINK were nominated for Europe’s largest music awards “MTV EMA,” proving the popularity of K-pop once again.
According to the list of nominees announced by the 2022 MTV Europe Music Awards (‘2022 MTV EMA’) on the 13th (Korea Standard Time), BLACKPINK was named in four categories and BTS and Seventeen in three categories in three categories.
First of all, BLACKPINK was nominated for the “Best Video” category with its second full-length pre-release song “Pink Venom.” BLACKPINK is the first K-pop group to be nominated in the category. BLACKPINK will compete with Harry Styles, Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj for the “Best Video” award.
In addition, it was also nominated for Best K-Pop, Biggest Fans, and Best Metaverse Performance.
The BTS was nominated in three categories: “Best K-pop,” “Vigist Fan,” and “Best Metabus Performance.” In particular, BTS won the trophy in four categories in 2020, including “Best Song,” “Vigist Fan,” “Best Group,” “Best Virtual Live,” “Best Pop” in 2021, “Best K-pop,” “Best Group,” and “Vigist Fan.”
In addition, BTS has been honored with the award for four consecutive years until last year, starting with its first award in 2018 in the “Vigist Fan” category, drawing keen attention to whether it will succeed in winning the award for five consecutive years at the 2022 MTV EMA.”
SEVENTEEN was nominated for the award for the first time. They were nominated in three categories: “Best K-pop,” “Best New,” and “Best Push.”
In addition, TOMORROW X TOGETHER was the only K-pop group to be nominated in the “Best Asia Act” category, and in addition to BLACKPINK Lisa, BTS, and Seventeen, TWICE and ITZY were nominated in the “Best K-pop” category, realizing the popularity of K-pop in Europe.
The 2022 MTV EMA is an award ceremony that selects the hottest songs and music videos in Europe. It will be held at PSD Bank Dome in Düsseldorf, Germany on the 14th of next month and will be broadcast live on MTV.
