Avatar 1 billion dollars in box office in 2 weeks…It’s the fastest movie of the year
The movie “Avatar: The Way of Water” (Avatar 2) has surpassed $1 billion in box office revenue around the world in just two weeks of its release, making it the fastest box office hit this year.
Bloomberg reported that Walt Disney, which distributes the film, made the announcement on the 27th.
Avatar 2 reached $1 billion at the fastest pace since Spider-Man: Nowhere Home last year and achieved it faster than Top Gun: Maverick and Jurassic World: Dominion, which earned more than $1 billion this year
Avatar 2, one of the most expensive films ever produced, must continue to maintain this rate of revenue growth in order to break even.
Director James Cameron, who directed the film, once said that the film must exceed $2 billion in box office income to generate net profits.
The previous Avatars film, which was released in 2009, earned nearly $3 billion (about 3.8 trillion won) from box offices around the world.
Avatars 2 has recorded $300 million in sales so far in the U.S. and Canada.
Last weekend, it earned $95.5 million in the U.S. alone despite severe cold weather such as snowstorms, easily exceeding expectations ($82 million).
Avatar 2 depicts Jake Sully (Sam Washington) and Natilly (Joe Saldana), who became a butterfly from humans, forming a family and leaving to avoid the threat of ruthless survival.
