Major wins more important in KLPGA competition…Point adjustment
Starting next year, winning a major tournament will be necessary to win the grand prize on the KLPGA Tour.
The KLPGA Tour announced on the 1st that it will newly adjust the target point section given to the competition and implement it from 2024.
According to the new regulations, the winners of five major tournaments will receive 100 points.
It is 30 points more than the current 70.
Moreover, the current regulations give 70 points, the same as major tournaments, if they win a total prize money of more than 1 billion won, but from next year, the winners of the tournament with a total prize money of more than 1 billion won and less than 1.2 billion won will only get 70 points.
In addition, the upper limit of the target points that can be received per competition has also been raised. 70 points are now the upper limit.
The winner of the competition with a total prize of 1.2 billion won or more and less than 1.5 billion won will receive 80 points. Competition with a total prize of more than 1.5 billion won will receive 90 points.
This change will make it difficult to win the grand prize without winning a major tournament. In addition, the more prize money you win, the more likely you are to win the grand prize.
According to the changed target point distribution table, the KLPGA Tour simulated, and the prize money king is more likely to win the grand prize.
Last year’s prize money king Park Min-ji (25) won six major tournaments, including two wins, but failed to win the grand prize because she was pushed back by Kim Soo-ji (27), who won two major tournaments without winning.
This is unlikely to happen from 2024.
In the Rookie of the Year competition, the performance of tournaments with large prize money has become more important along with major tournaments.
Under the current regulations, winners of competitions with total prize money of more than 1 billion won and major tournaments will receive 310 points equally, but from next year, winners of competitions with more than 1 billion won and less than 1.2 billion won will receive only 230 points.
Instead, winners of competitions worth more than 1.2 billion won and less than 1.5 billion won will receive 270 points, while champions of competitions worth more than 1.5 billion won will receive 310 points, the same as major tournaments.
In addition, the KLPGA Tour has established a prestigious rule that if a player is disqualified or abstains, various records such as albatross, hole-in-one, eagle, course record, and daily best obtained from the competition will be canceled. He is not injured along with the record cancellation.
In addition, the KLPGA Tour will be seeded to the No. 1 player in the International Qualifying Tournament (IQT), which will be held in July.
Currently, only the top IQT passers-in ticket to the KLPGA Championship and exemption from the qualifying round for the regular tour seed next season are given.
